You may often hear that betting on parlays is dumb. If you’re like me, you shut out that
negative talk and create parlays to bet on.
The real question isn’t whether you should bet on parlays, but rather should you bet big
on small odds or bet small on big odds?
There really isn’t a right or wrong answer to this question. I consider it a personal
decision based upon the size of your bankroll and your comfort level with potentially losing a
certain amount of money.
If you have unlimited funds, then consider yourself one of the lucky ones and you can go
either way. If you’re like me and try to stay within a budget, then here’s what I try to do to
maximize my enjoyment while betting.
Personally, I’m all about the low risk, high reward parlays. I regularly bet $2 – $5 dollars
on a parlay with odds of +1,000 or more. My favorite parlay during the NFL season is the
anytime TD parlays. My biggest win to date is just over $500 from a $5 anytime TD parlay.
Do I complete the research on the picks I use for my parlays? Absolutely not, that’s way
too time consuming. I follow a few accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter, that regularly
share their research. Sometimes I’ll tail their parlays and most other times I will just create my
own using their research.
Just like with all other bets, there are highs and lows with your results. Some weeks you
can win several bets and other weeks you can lose them all. The focus should be to stay in the
game as long as possible without having to add any funds to your accounts. If your bankroll is
getting low, then don’t be afraid to cash out early if that’s what you need to do to keep yourself
in the game. You might kick yourself later, but it’s better than being totally out of the game.
Trust me, I’ve kicked myself for cashing out early and for not cashing out when I should have
done so. It can be frustrating, but I remind myself that I didn’t bet a lot and I’m doing this for fun
rather than trying to supplement my income.
